Constellation Wine Packaging

1st Packaging were initially given a design concept to produce a bag-in-the-box wine container holding 2.25 litres, the equivalent of three bottles of wine - while taking up only the space used by one of its counterparts.

The challenge was to develop a packaging solution that could accommodate a larger volume of wine within a compact and distinctive format. The finished design combined a number of different packaging components, each selected and produced to meet the requirements of the overall concept.
The outer construction incorporated an injection-moulded lid and base part, manufactured from recycled black polypropylene. This created the main structural components of the pack while providing a strong and distinctive black finish.

The packaging was completed with glued cardboard sleeves in four print variants. These were manufactured from 720 micron Korsnas Carrier board with FSC certification. The sleeves were printed using six-colour litho, with matt and gloss UV varnish and gold foil blocking used to create a high-quality and premium appearance.

Self-adhesive reels were also produced using Fasson PP Top White material. These were printed flexographically in six colours with UV inks, together with varnish and an add-kill pool tab.

The project therefore involved the coordination of several different packaging processes and materials, from injection moulding and specialist board printing through to self-adhesive labels.

The final packaging provided a distinctive presentation for the 2.25-litre wine format while combining recycled materials, FSC-certified board and a range of high-quality print and finishing techniques.
